Chinese New Year is just around the corner....29-01-2006 to be exact.... we celebrate Chinese new Year for 15 days....This is a couple of "fat boy & fat girl"
wishing visitors a happy, prosperous, good lucky new year.
This is common in every household.... 

Mandarin oranges is a must during chinese new year.
We get to eat this once a year, hence around this time...
the market and absically everywhere will be flooded with this mandarin oranges. Mandarin Oranges is to chinese wht turkey is to christian during christmas eve. 

Fishes are good symbol too... in fact if you notice...RED is the auspicious colour for chinese..... all thing red on wedding, all thing red on birthday, on any celebration.. Most of the decorations are in red colour, and all chinese are encouraged to wear red during chinese new year.... and black is a NO-NO

Chinese are more practical when come to giving gifts...
we dont have headache choosing gifts and stuff...
we give cash...though only the married couple need to give...

like kids, spinster and stuff.
The amount is varied, and there are no rules on how much you should give.
Anyhow, giving red packet is just a symbolic gesture...chinese tradition
